MICROSCOPE
In Centrum Zdrowego Uśmiechu root canal treatment (endodontic treatment) is performed solely under the microscope. Why? Dental microscope is a device that allows the dentist to work under great magnification. Such enhanced vision makes it possible to see clearly the minuscule insides of the tooth (usually the working area of the tooth measures up to 3 x 4 mm, with some of its elements being as small as 0.1 mm). The microscope is a necessary tool to achieve proper visibility and illumination of the tooth, which then translates to increased precision and thoroughness of the treatment.
It also means that in most cases the root canal treatment can be performed during a single visit.
Endodontic treatment under the microscope is often the only way to save a tooth previously doomed for extraction.
We strive to make the whole treatment process as comfortable as possible. That’s why we use local anaesthesia - lack of pain during any procedure is paramount to us!
Endodontic treatment is performed using special rotary files and instruments which remove infected tissues from the root canals. Several antibacterial solutions are used as well to thoroughly rinse the canal and remove any leftover debris. To further increase the effectiveness of those solutions we use them in combination with ultrasonic activation technique. Such treatment algorithm allows us to remove up to 99.9% of bacteria present in an inflamed, infected tooth.
Afterwards, the empty space inside the root left by the chemo-mechanical preparation must be tightly filled. To do so we use thermoplasticized gutta-percha points with special paste (sealant). It allows us to fill the root in 3 dimensions, sealing every nook and cranny of the canal system.
In Centrum Zdrowego Uśmiechu almost all of the root canal treatments are performed during a single visit. Time of the procedure depends on the difficulty level and the amount of canals present in each root. It usually ranges from 45 to 120 minutes.
CBCT (Cone Beam Computed Tomography)
Our Clinic is equipped with Cone Beam Computed Tomography, which allows us to visualize 3D (three-dimensional) image of the tooth. Such image is much more detailed than classic 2D x-ray pictures. It allows us to better plan the endodontic treatment of even the most difficult teeth. CBCT shows us the number of canals present in each root and their individual anatomy. It helps us detect possible obstructions or obliterations of canals as well as presence, and size, of periapical inflammation. These informations are crucial to reduce the possibility of post-treatment complications.
Tooth Prognosis
Long-term prognosis of teeth that have underwent root canal treatment is very good. Such teeth can stay in the mouth and properly function for years to come.
Overall success rate of root canal treatment reaches up to:
- 95% - for teeth without periapical inflammation
- 85% - for teeth with periapical inflammation, that weren’t previously treated endodontically
- 80% - for teeth with periapical inflammation, that were previously treated endodontically (retreatment)
